AAO writer RC-2

Greg Madden
Debian stable, the following.

Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz RC-2

Long time user, have all my forms for my work created with Writer as
templates using  "Tables" and the current stable AOO.

RC-2 has introduced some unstable behavior. Create a 10x34 row/column
table. I use  4 different styles on my table, modify the styles first.

Select some cells, use "merge cells" apply style to new cell(s)

Writer crashes..disappears with no error message. Restart the recovery
process is working. Sometimes it crashes during the cell selection
process, other times with the "merge cell" button. sometimes quickly
some slowly, but a crash occurs.

Hope this is helpful, the current version works perfectly..thank you,
would like to help make the next release as reliable.

Re: AAO writer RC-2

Patricia Shanahan
Thanks for this report. I am working on another bug so I can't get to it
immediately.

It would be helpful to get as much characterization as possible. Does it
happen on other operating systems? How many styles are necessary to
reproduce the bug?

Re: AAO writer RC-2

Matthias Seidel
Maybe Gregg could create a test document and send us a link?
I would be interested to test it on Windows and Ubuntu.

Also, as it happens in Writer it could be related to the other bug.

Regards, Matthias

Re: AAO writer RC-2

Dr. Michael Stehmann-2
I have also a problem with a form under Debian 64 bit, but in _Base_.

This problem is a little bit older (4.1.3), but that form was designed
and works under older versions of AOO under Debian 32 bit. The form is
contained in an .odb and connected to a MySQL (Mariadb) DBMS.

Trying to go in a cell of that form a textbox without any text appears.
So I can give you no error message. Every time I try to close that box
either per clicking "OK" or using the window button AOO crashes.

So I have to use that other office suite shipped by Debian to do my work
( :-( I don't like that green ;-) ).

And I can't give you that form,  because it contains financial figures.

Maybe it's a 64 bit problem only, but I'm not sure.

Kind regards
Michael

I am willing to supply a test doc. Dropbox is my only file sharing
possibility..it does not seem suited for this.

I can email anyone a file (Matthias?) to use or post to devs.

I can't figure out why this issue wasn't simply added to Bugzilla and the file attached to the bug...
Or reported on the QA mailing list?

AOO RC2 under Windows 7 x64 does not crash with the sample document following the steps described by Greg.

Maybe this is a Ubuntu only problem?

Pedro

Re: AAO writer RC-2

Patricia Shanahan
I agree about preferring a Bugzilla entry. We need to collect and
organize information about where it does and does not reproduce, and
about variants of the file. Bugzilla is set up to store that sort of
information.

My only Ubuntu machine is a small, aging laptop not suitable for
development work. If it is an Ubuntu-only problem, debugging it will
need the involvement of at least one Ubuntu-using developer.

It would be interesting if the bug shows up in Lubuntu or Kubuntu too.
Maybe it's just GTK related. This would make since since we have a change
in GTK with the GTK Fix.

The final destination for all these reports should be a Bugzilla issue,
with relevant files attached. There we can also discuss whether this is
a regression with respect to 4.1.3 or earlier versions. Peter, will you
be opening it? Thanks!

@Greg M

you might want to subscribe to the bug I have linked.

@all

Have checked some possible duplicates. Found none for writer.

Hope I got the Issue right. (I am only the messenger)

Following Testers wanted to test:

Michael: Windows; Ubuntu

Occurence was on Debian.

@ Michael

I havent entered your bug, yet.

Should I or do you want to have the honor?

Maybe we can build some minimized test doc unrelated to your original.

All the best

Peter
