ICU

Cthar
Hi all,

I am sorry. My poor skill in communication language plus no proper
background in linguistic
made me post again and again,.... the vague questions, ... unrelated
questions...etc. Excuse me, Please.

Can anyone help in using ICU....its Library, API, etc...
Which ICU to use: either ICU4C or ICU4J? Which Version?
i had managed to install in Debian from its package manager. its version is
3.8.1-3+lenny1.
How can it be used to write dictionary based line break iterator?
Wordlists are ready as needed.
How can we make it used by OOo.

Any other relevant information will be appreciated,
and hope the information help me build Dzongkha spell checker..

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
C.Norbu

Hi C. Norbu,

What is the initial problem that you are trying to solve? It is
certainly the right place, and maybe the people who work with the break
iterator has accomplished what you are trying to do already.

Hi C.Norbu,

I did some testing for Khmer, but I am travelling now and do not have
access to the code. I will send it to you when I get back.

You should take the latest version of ICU (you can download from their
SVN, or get it compressed form the OpenOffice SVN).

You need to copy the classes for Thai dictionary based breakiteration,
and make specific classes for Dzongkha (or for tibetan script, I do not
remember if it is script or language specific). Then, when you make it
work in ICU, you have to do some modifications to OpenOffice for it to
NOT handle word boundaries and line breaking for Dzongkha, and hand it
to ICU.

In July I can give you the code that we have for Khmer, and maybe we can
work together and integrate both.

Cheers,

Javier

P.D. I worked with Pema Geyleg from DIT in 2005 to include tibetan
script in ICU for OpenOffice.
