NUMBERTEXT.org project for ODF and OpenOffice.org

Németh László-2
Hi,

NUMBERTEXT.org is an ODF and OpenOffice.org related project for
universal and standardized number to number name and currency name
conversion in spreadsheets and database interfaces. If you like
language technology or your language, join the development:

http://NUMBERTEXT.org

Also check the NUMBERTEXT OpenOffice.org extension:

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/numbertext

Best regards,
László

Hi László,

Here are the first Serbian Cyrillic and Serbian Latin implementations of
numbers to text regular expression transducer written in Soros language:

  http://goranrakic.com/tmp/sr.soros
  http://goranrakic.com/tmp/sh.soros

I will look on currency transducer, at the moment it looks very
complicated but maybe it is just too late.

Thanks for your work.

Hi Goran,

Thank you for your nice work. I will add to the NUMBERTEXT.org
distribution, if you release it under also LGPL/BSD licenses. You can
copy the currency code to your programs from the similar Slovenian
program without any license problem.

Best regards,
László

(PS: By the way, here is a fantastic news from the Hungarian media
about the origin of the Cyrillic alphabet:

Do you need both LGPL/BSD or just LGPL is fine?

I have updated http://goranrakic.com/tmp/sr.soros and
http://goranrakic.com/tmp/sh.soros to be licensed under CC BY-SA and
LGPL v3.

I will look at the example. I am not sure if the number gender is the
same for Slovenian and Serbian but I will check.

I would like more to find our how they get to these symbols at first
place :)

I believe, BSD license helps the standardization process and the
widespread usage.

Moreover, adding little modifications to the format (Soros program)
for the user's requirements without annoying the license issues is an
important requirement. For example, if you like the capitalized form
of the number names, you can modify the source for your own purposes
or for the policy of your company or bank.

You can freely modify the number of the "pseudoarguments" of the
currency functions.

Hallo László

I quickly reviewed the Afrikaans, and it seems mostly usable. I would
have to confirm one small aspect of the spelling rules (there is one
class that they don't specify very clearly to me at least), but it seems
that the current implementation for Afrikaans could already be correct
for integers.

The handling of fractions is problematic, though. You will see that
anything more than two decimal places results in no output. (the same
happens for Dutch and Thai).

I am interested if you can point me to the code for Afrikaans, and any
references or people involved up to this point.

Out of curiosity: for which applications would this spreadsheet function
be important?

Keep well
Friedel

It is easily changeable.

Load af_ZA module in the IDE: http://numbertext.org/Soros.html

The selected Africaans orthography is based on the following book by
Bruce C. Donaldson: A grammar of Africaans, MOUTON DE GRUYTER, 1993
(Google Books: http://books.google.hu/books?id=ftzioRvJzTUC&pg=RA1-PA420&lpg=RA1-PA420&dq=Africaans+numerals&source=bl&ots=PdhBh9pSp7&sig=9edsNzZQC02Mgt6dfwsgRrihWA0&hl=hu&ei=KfaYStjlGY-enQOuqbHhBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5#v=onepage&q=&f=false)

>

Number names have traditional usage in formal documents (invoices,
contracts etc.). There is modern usage in text-to-speech systems
(telebanking, ATMs and other devices for visually impaired people
etc.). See also the competitive analysis in
http://numbertext.org/numbertext.pdf. I hope, the Office Open XML
compatibility (BAHTTEXT conversion to ODF using MONEYTEXT) is also not
in the l'art pour l'art category.

By the way, one of the first issue of OpenOffice.org bug tracker is
about this topic:
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3702.

Thanks for your review.

László

I also had a very quick review, there is a typo on this numbers :
1(\d{9}) un milliarde $1
(\d{1,3})(\d{9}) $1| milliardes $2
1(\d{12}) un billion $1
(\d{1,3})(\d{12}) $1| billions $2
1(\d{15}) un billiarde $1
(\d{1,3})(\d{15}) $1| billiardes $2
1(\d{18}) un trillion $1
(\d{1,3})(\d{18}) $1| trillions $2
1(\d{21}) un trilliarde $1
(\d{1,3})(\d{21}) $1| trilliardes $2

it's milliards, billiards, trilliards, etc. without the [e].
The specifics rules for 100 and 80 are corrects.
I'll try to have a deeper look during the next week.
Thanks a lot for this work
Kind regards
Sophie

I already reported several issues there:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/numbertext/+bugs?field.tag=french

But you can review the file futher more. I didn’t have the time to check
everything.

this is indeed very nice and quite easy to fix (even for Polish where
it's quite involved). Here's my bug report:

Hi Marcin,

Thanks, and many thanks for your fixes, too. (It was interesting to
read, that long Polish number names could be difficult for Polish
people, too.) I have modified the complex groups to portable regular
expressions and added an affix function to compress the program:

1(\d{3}) tysiąc $1
([234]|\d{2}[234])(\d{3}) $1 tysiące $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{3}) $1 tysięcy $2

# affix function
:1,(.+) \1
:(1[1-9]),(.+) $1 \2ów
:([234]|\d[02-9][234]),(.+) $1 \2y
:(\d+),(.+) $1 \2ów

(\d{1,3})(\d{6}) $(:\1,milion) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{9}) $(:\1,miliard) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{12}) $(:\1,bilion) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{15}) $(:\1,biliard) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{18}) $(:\1,trylion) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{21}) $(:\1,tryliard) $2
(\d{1,3})(\d{24}) $(:\1,kwadrylion) $2

Regards,
László

OK, I prefer copyleft licenses but BSD is fine for this and I would like
to have definitions included in the official release so I will approve
whatever you select as appropriate. Do it need to be triple-licensed or
using BSD only is good enough?

Ah, this won't work for 112000 = sto dwanaście tysięcy, right?

This looks nicer than my regex, I didn't know we have affix functions in
Soros.

I have released your programs under a CC/LGPL/BSD tri-license with
Numbertext extension version 0.6:

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/node/2425/release

Unfortunatelly, I haven't extended it with currency handling, yet,
but we will be able to fix it in the next version of the Numbertext extension.

Thanks for relicensing your work and your help again,

László
