Re: Maintainer for the Kurdish language

Peter Kovacs-3
Welcome Sima Ahmadi,

I have added the l10 Mailing list. I recommend you subscribe to this list.

If you have subscribed to the list state your prefered User name and ask
for an account.

here is an example.

https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/rc827c87df875ccc476f08eefb507672a7601bd41b451d0f596c5f740%40%3Cl10n.openoffice.apache.org%3E

For the Surani Dialect of Kurdish, I am not sure how we handle this. I
would like to ask how we may handle that. I hope I will read of you more
often.

If you have questions we are happy to answer them.

All the best

Peter

I reckon a new page will be required for the Sorani language, as the current page is quite well-established for the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish.

RE: Maintainer for the Kurdish language

Sina Ahmadi
Dear Peter,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes. I have subscribed to l10, too. Would you create an account for me with "sinahm" as username, please?

I would also have two questions regarding adding my spell-checker for Sorani:

  *   Although the .aff and .dic files are both ready and functional, I do not seem to be able to create the extension to use it on OpenOffice. Is there any step-by-step guideline in addition to https://www.openoffice.org/lingucomponent/dictionary.html and https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Extension_Dictionaries?
  *   I am planning to release this spell-checker under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Will that be OK with your policies?

The reason that I suggested adding a new page for Sorani is that the current Kurdish page includes Kurmanji data and it may not be ideal to add another dialect, particularly as the two dialects are written in two different scripts, Sorani in an Arabic-based script and Kurmanji in a Latin-based one. LibreOffice, for example, provides two separate pages for those two dialects, too: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language/Support

Best regards,
Sina Ahmadi
