Writer not accessible on Mac

Adam Samec
Hello,

since the current OpenOffice Writer 4.1.3 is not accessible using VoiceOver on Mac, mainly as the document edit field gives no feedback when typing or navigating, but there are more problems, could someone please suggest me an older version which works with the screen reader? I also tried 3.0.0 and the same issue exists there.

The related bug report is here:

By the way, LibreOffice exhibits  the same issue.

Kind regards
Adam

Re: Writer not accessible on Mac

Hello,

for those interested, I found out that at least LibreOffice Writer (I have tried 5.3.0) is actually able to read back text in the document edit field when typing or navigating within the document if I enable the "Book mode with two pages as in an open book". Although with some inconveniences, particularly, each line of text is treated as a separate edit field which causes VoiceOver to announce extra information each time you move to another line.

However, there are more accessibility issues in LibreOffice, for instance, some pop-up menus are not working and some parts of Preferences cannot be accessed or lead to an application crash, that is, almost the same problems as in OpenOffice, but at least the most important thing, screen reader feedback in the document content, is working in LibreOffice, as opposed to OpenOffice.

Best regards
